ABSTRACT

Patients with COVID-19 are more susceptible to coinfections with fungi. The invasive fungal infection is commonly seen in immunocomprised and diabetics. Mucormycosis is a fatal disease with high mortality and morbidity. Hence, early diagnosis and management helps to prevent mortality. Our study is a Retrospective study. The main aim is to determine the epidemiology, risk factors, clinical presentation and diagnosis & management of fungal sinusitis and to determine the various microbiological species associated with post covid and non-covid patients. The study includes 70 suspected patients of mucormycosis.Out of which 52 were Post covid and 18 were Non covid persons. 64.2 % received steroids and 45.7 % received oxygen during COVID-19 management. Diabetes mellitus was the most common co-morbidity with 94% followed by hypertension. Sinonasal involvement were the most common site followed by orbit and facial pain(91.4%) was the most common presentation.Nasal and oral specimens were sent for KOH mount, fungal culture and sensitivity. The surgical procedure was carried out based on the clinical and radiological extent of the patient. The results concludes with culture positive Mucormycosis was found in 30(42.85%).Out of which Rhizopus was the predominant species in 22(31.42%) followed by Aspergillus 14(20%).The patients who underwent surgery were on routine follow-up for 6 monthsCopyright © 2023, Research Journal of Pharmaceutical, Biological and Chemical Sciences. All Rights Reserved.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, the significance of biosensors has increased rapidly due to the growing demand for rapid detection of various biomarkers with high selectivity and sensitivity. Among different biosensors, Graphene Field Effect Transistor (Gr-FET) based biosensors has emerged as a promising device and exhibited wide range of application prospects. Gr-FET biosensors are ideal for ultra-sensitive immunological diagnosis applications as it can sense surrounding changes on their surface with low noise. Recently Gr-FET based biosensors have gained profound research interest among scientific community because of its ability in detection of SARS-CoV-2 (corona virus-2). This review article highlights the sensing performance and characteristics of different Gr-FET biosensors like DNA sensor, RNA sensor, glucose sensor, lactose sensor, protein sensor, pH sensor, various bacteria and virus detecting sensors etc. This article also critically reviews the recent progress in Gr-FET based SARS- CoV-2 covid-19 virus detection bio-sensors. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has turned out to be one of the dreadful disaster mankind has ever faced. With the subsequent waves of the pandemic setting in several countries, the number of cases being reported is quite alarming. People need to stay extremely vigilant and ensure strict adherence to social distancing, hand hygiene, and usage of personal protectives like masks, hand gloves and face shields. Remdesivir, an anti-viral drug used against the COVID-19, believed to have some therapeutic effects is on a surplus demand. There have been reports of illegal hoarding of these drugs. We need to be vigilant and keep a check on the circulation of fake Remdesivir drugs in the market amidst the pandemic. The study proposed development of a novel Drug Validator Application to detect fake Remdesivir drugs. This is done by scanning the carton or the vial of the Remdesivir drug through the dedicated Android application. This is further sent to the cloud server for processing. The AI model which runs in the cloud server evaluates the genuineness of the drug image. The report comprising the recommendation as Genuine or Fake is sent to the user through his/her registered mobile number and e-mail address. This application could curb the circulation of fake drugs in the market amidst the pandemic and could help in undertaking a real-time surveillance. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Plants and bioactive compounds have played an important role in the development of several clinically useful therapeutic agents since time immemorial. In the recent years, more emphasis has been placed on identifying plant-derived compounds that can be used as an effective treatment for life-threatening diseases. COVID-19, a new strain of coronavirus (CoV), was identified in Wuhan, China, in 2019. No specific therapies are available and investigations regarding COVID-19 treatment are lacking. Bioactive compounds found in Siddha herbal formulation Deva Chooranam which was previously confirmed through molecular docking to have antiviral effects against HIV -RT. The present study aimed to assess Deva Chooranam as potential COVID-19 Mpro inhibitor. Molecular docking was performed using Autodock 4.2, with the Lamarckian Genetic Algorithm and results were visualized using pymol. The physiochemical and ADMET(Adsorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) properties were also analysed.COVID-19 Mpro was docked with several compounds, Eugenol A-Pinene, Atlantone, Myrcene, Luteolin, Apigenin, Kaempferol and docking was analysed using Pymol. The results showed that out of the 7 compounds screened Luteolin appeared to have the best potential binding against the COVID-19 Mpro 6LU7. However, further research is necessary to investigate their potential medicinal use. © 2020 iGlobal Research and Publishing Foundation. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Terminalia Chebula has been extensively used in field of traditional medicine and AYUSH. Recent Studies using fluorescence analysis given a sense of understanding of Terminalia Chebula fruit pulp. Present study is to carry out preliminary phytochemical screening of EEFTC fruit pulp and the Medicinal values . Terminalia Chebula dried fruit The ethanolic extracts were concentrated in Roto flash evaporator and dried and stored in freezer for further biochemical analysis by using screening methods like preparation of smoothie, Phytochemical analysis, evaluation of determination of crude fibre content and antimicrobial activity of plant extracts, Qualitative Phytochemical analysis, we found that the, aqueous, ethanolic extract of T. Chebula (EETC) is rich with all the compound like Phytosterols, Triterpenoids, Carbohydrate, Glycosides, Phenolic compound . The antimicrobial activity index of extracts of Terminalia Chebula dried fruit pulp at different concentrations was also investigated, the antimicrobial activity, indicated by an inhibition zone surrounding the well containing the extract, was recorded if the zone was greater than 8 mm. Terminalia Ch ebula contains biomolecules which already shown the have anti‐viral, anti‐inflammatory, anti‐oxidant properties, against many pathogen microorganism . in present situation of pandemic outbreak, an expedited screening of therapeutically bioactive constituents is required to establish the anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 property of these herbs.
